    Grandparent Day Kindy - Yr 2 - 24th March

    2020 Grandparents Day Invite

    Leeuwin Ocean Adventure

    27 Feb 2020

As you will see from the email below only one student was able to go on the Albany to Fremantle voyage, apparently they had numerous applications and had to take it on the time received.  However as you will see they have made another offer that has to be in by tomorrow.  Its is to Monkey Mia and they will catch the bus up and back. Monkey Mia is one of the only world heritage listed marine parks in the southern hemisphere.  As Woodside are sponsoring this voyage they are asking for students to have a career interest in the Maritime industry, this could be quite broad eg engineering, boat building, marine science fishing etc, I’m sure you can think of something appropriate.  Ms Hack will be available to help the students tomorrow morning in HASS but I would request that a draft is completed before class tomorrow if you are interested.  While this voyage is a little more expensive I believe it will be a much more interesting one than the Albany to Perth voyage.

Please be aware that this is not a school based excursion and no staff will be on the voyage to supervise and duty of care will lie with the Leeuwin Ocean Adventure.

    Regards

     Email received from Michelle Reidy-Crofts

    Dear Bernie,

We are so pleased the students at Boyup Brook DHS are keen to seek an adventure on board the Sail Training Ship Leeuwin ll.

Unfortunately the Newman’s Own Sponsorship has been fully allocated, however we would like to offer the students another opportunity.

The Voyage V2012, 31 May to 4 June sailing Monkey Mia to Monkey Mia in the World Heritage Shark Bay UNESCO site is available for the students to apply for a Woodside Energy Sponsorship.

The fare is $1,650. Sponsorship covers 75% of the fare $1,237.50 with the remaining  gap to pay of only $412.50.

A bus will be chartered from the B Shed in Fremantle on 30 May and return to the B Shed on 4 June. The cost is usually less than $100 each way and will be confirmed once final numbers are booked and the bus seating size is confirmed.

(Woodside Energy Sponsorships looks good on CV’s).

Students in years 10-12 may also have this Endorsed Program voyage recognised by SCSA on the WASSA/WACE certificates.

Curtin University also recognise Leeuwin Ocean Adventure Foundation as a Learning Futures Network Member providing students access to the ACES Scholarships and Alternative Pathway Portfolio entrance.

The students will need to fill out the Woodside Energy Sponsorships and please return by tomorrow, Friday 28 February.

If they could also complete the Voyage Application form  (if they did not do this prior) and send in with the sponsorship form this will stream line the process please.

If you would prefer to send them to my email I can then follow this groups process collectively and we can have an answer on Tuesday.

Please feel free to offer this opportunity to other students who may fit the maritime career criterion if a  larger group from the school would like this adventure. (also a great opportunity for any students seeking another “C” grade to graduate)

Please also discuss with me if you have students who are keen and don’t fit the criterion, as we may be able to offer a couple of alternatives (not the same value however).

Thank you Bernie for chasing this up for the students and I hope we can create lifelong skills and  memories for then all!

If there is anything else I can assist with please call anytime. I am looking forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Coronavirus Information

    26 Feb 2020

The current advice we have from both the Health and Education Department in regards to the Coronavirus  is that any one that has travelled from mainland China is not to return to school for a 14 day period. The risk of transmission in Australia remains low; however, the situation is evolving. Western Australians should remain alert, but not be alarmed. Students returning from South East Asian countries including Japan or Bali are extremely unlikely to contract the virus and are deemed as low risk.  If you suspect you may have coronavirus symptoms or may have had close contact with a person who has coronavirus, you should contact the Coronavirus Health Information Line on 1800 020 080 immediately.

Attached is a Frequently Asked Questions for Coronavirus that I would encourage you to read.

Please contact the school if you have any concerns in regards to this issue.

    Online Account Consent

    25 Feb 2020

At the beginning of the school year various consent forms were sent home with every child, amongst these forms was one for an online account.

A school online account is used for educational purposes, i.e. Mathletics, Soundwaves & Reading Eggs.  It does NOT include any social media sites.

All students are carefully monitored and our systems are set up so that only acceptable sites are available.

Our records indicate that you have either ticked no or have not indicated that you allow your child to have access to an online account.

Without this consent your child will not be able to access the various educational sites that we at Boyup Brook District High School deem to be an important part of your child’s education.

While we acknowledge your concern around online accounts, we would really appreciate your consent to use these programs however we do acknowledge that you may not want your child to access these accounts. In this case we will ensure that your child will be provided with an alternative educationally sound learning program.

Please click on the link below and indicate if you do or do not consent to your child accessing an online account for educational purposes.
