2022 Year 5/6 Students
03 Dec 2021
Dear Year Four/Five Parents,
We are working on class lists and timetables for 2022 and one of the proposals is that we continue with the Year 5/6 class coming to the High School, most likely on a Thursday. This has worked extremely well in past years in that it gives primary students access to some great resources and specialist teachers in a range of curriculum areas.
While we appreciate that some of you may be concerned about your child mixing with older students at recess and lunch we have some good processes in place that regularly monitor the program including student feedback each week as part of the next day’s program. We also closely monitor the playground during lunch and recess with admin and teaching staff out and about with the students and we immediately follow up on any incidences when they occur.
For many other District High Schools across the state this would be a normal daily occurrence of primary mixing with high school students. However, we would like to assure you that we have worked very hard to make this alternative program a positive educational experience that brings value to their schooling.
If you have concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We do stress that this is only proposed at this point and will depend on staffing before a final decision is made.

Reporting to Parents: Information

Reporting To Parents- Information
Semester Two reports will be emailed out to parents towards the end of the term. It is vital that all parents have provided the school with a current email address so that reports get to you on time and successfully.
If you do not have a current email address and/or need a hard copy of your child’s report, please contact the school office on 97650000.
Information regarding ‘D and E’ grades
Parents of students who receive a D or E grade on their report, will be well informed of this prior to reports being sent out to parents.
It is important that parents know that if your child receives a D grade this indicates that they are working below the expected level of their year level. These students will be provided curriculum adjustments throughout their curriculum content and will be placed on an Individual Education Plan. These plans are communicated to Parents on a regular basis and are updated regularly.
If your child receives an E grade this indicates that they are working well below the expected level of their year level. Students who receive this grade will be provided with an Individual Education plan and be reported on an additional SEN (Special Education Needs) report. These reports are used to demonstrate the progress each child has made on their individual plans. This does not mean that they have not progressed, only that they have very specific goals and curriculum adjustments in order for them to gain the necessary skills to maintain their individual progress. These students usually will have either a specific disability diagnosis or learning difficulty which impedes their learning. If your child does require a SEN report an E grade will appear on their normal report and a comment stating “See SEN report” will appear in the comment section.
In either of these cases, Parents will have had discussions with their child’s teachers and will be well aware of their child’s Individual Education Plan, level of achievement and if they will require a SEN report.
If you as a Parent have any concerns about your child’s report or level of achievement, please discuss this with your child’s teacher, or make an appointment to see Bernard, Cheree or Renee.
Regards, Bernard Beatty Principal
