Country Week - Parent Helper Request

10 Aug 2022

Historically, Boyup Brook DHS has received outstanding service from teachers, parents and other community members in a range of activities that enable the school to deliver additional activities to our student.

Country Week provides a challenge because of the commitment required of adult coaches. Nevertheless, the opportunity to coach or assist a team is a rewarding experience.

At the moment we are short of coaches and managers for the Basketball Teams. We have nominated 3 teams.

Coaching the team would involve having a basic knowledge of basketball (assistance would be given).

Managing the Team would involve assisting in scoring for the games played.

Team coaches are required to:

  • Coach the team throughout the week and support other coaches and teams
  • Actively supervise and support all students throughout the week
  • Maintain the same level of confidentiality that is expected of teaching staff

If we are unable to have the positions filled, some of the teams may need to be disbanded and redistributed.

Please contact Steve Franklyn for any information on 9765 0000.

2022 Country Week Final Costings and Permissions

10 Aug 2022

The final cost for Country Week is $380 per student.  This amount has been heavily subsidised by our hard working Country Week Fundraising Parent Committee.  We would like to thank them for their commitment to our students and their amazing fundraising this year.

If you would like to apply for a Country Week Scholarship to further subsidise this amount please email cheree.shields@education.wa.edu.au by 12 noon Friday 19 August.  We will notify you no later than Monday 22 August if you are successful.

All notes and permission forms (please complete these online) are attached.  Full payment and forms are due by 2 September 2022.

Charli the Dog

10 Aug 2022

As you may be aware, prior to Bernard Beatty leaving BBDHS he ceased the school visitation of Charli - the dog. The reason for this is that the Department of Education mandates that animals, including pets, are not allowed on school grounds unless they are part of a school event, or are authorised assistance animals. This policy is in place for the safety of students, staff and the animal itself.

I personally have seen the value in having therapy dogs in schools and am very supportive of gaining this resource for BBDHS. I have already begun working with Lesley McWhirter to find a solution to possibly having Charli trained as a therapy dog, or sourcing other options to be able to have a therapy dog available for our students.

If you have any questions, feedback, or you would like to speak with me further about this issue, please feel free to contact me at the school.

Kind regards,

Melissa Reimers

Principal
